Hulkagedden V is coming

Though I’ve been playing EVE Online for over three years, on and off, I’ve yet to experience a Hulkagedden.  Hulkagedden V, reportedly scheduled to commence April 28th, will be the first while I’ve actually been active.  Hulkagedden is something of a misnomer because every day is a risk for any miner in that gankers roam the EVE universe daily.  My buddy had two of his Hulks popped just today by a Typhoon pilot, as an example.  And I’m sure any ice miner could tell you the conditions they’ve been mining in these past several weeks.

But Hulkageddens are a bit over the top.  I understand its akin to Maud’Dib’s Fremen Jihadists running wild over the known universe.  There will be hundreds of pilots roaming much of hi-sec space shooting every Retriever, Covetor, Hulk, Mackinaw, and Orca they see in a wild orgy of suicide ganking.  Ganking with a $100 Million ISK bounty attached to it!  That’s a whole lot of incentive, and I have a feeling that this years event is going to be a a bit more intense than in previous years anyway.

The wisest course of action for young miners is probably to park those mining ships for the duration, unless you can mine with sufficient protection.  But then again, that would likely just encourage larger groups.  As for me?  Looks like it’ll be a good time for me to work on my faction standings!
