Did anyone really believe that Jita wouldn’t burn until this weekend? Smart people knew otherwise. But you can see from this screen shot taken earlier this morning that shows the number of ship kills in the previous 24 hours, that there are a number of people who either have been under a rock lately or who evidently believe every word which the Mittani utters. Someone with a stronger sense self preservation would have taken it at face value that if the Mittani said Jita Burns would start on Saturday that by Wednesday you should have concluded your business in Jita.
So about the screenshot. Notice the giant glowing ball or redness around Jita? So large that it actually looks like the entire area surrounding Jita is a wasteland of ship destruction?
That’s because it basically was. Note the number of ships destroyed in Jita… Here’s the screenshot again, slightly zoomed to show the surrounding systems. Again, anyone thinking the festivities would be confined to Jita alone should have thought on that a bit more before traveling through the area.
In any event the Goons have the attention of EVE Online now. Everyone, who reads the forums and news sites, or not, knows what is going on now and the level of tears is over flowing in the forum and elsewhere. I admit it’s highly inconvenient, but at the same time I have to applaud its audacity. Jita Burns is unlikely to foster any real, or long lasting repercussions, though it will create some rather stunning fireworks in the short term.
This is the kind if environment — EVE’s sand box that I love so much. Players, and the interactions they are capable of having with one another are so much more complex and deep than any programmer can foster artificially. This event, if nothing else, shows the depth of the entertainment — the content — that is possible with EVE. And for that, I say to the Mittani and the Goons, well done.
[EDIT] OUCH! What the hell was this guy thinking?? I’ve seen reports of nearly 200 Billion ISK in Freighters destroyed in the first two days alone.
